Transmigration Minister M Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara is encouraging the development of vertical housing in transmigration areas. He stated that housing does not always have to be landed houses, suggesting that landed houses be allocated for local residents while newcomers could be provided with growing homes modelled on flats or apartments. Iftitah noted that the vertical housing model is suitable for transmigration areas due to increasingly limited and expensive land. He emphasised that the most important factors are ensuring people have jobs, a place to live, and access to schools, adding that land is becoming more costly and scarce. According to him, there is currently momentum for spatial and land-use planning, making it essential to utilise land in transmigration areas more wisely. Previously, Minister Iftitah affirmed his commitment to improving settlement services by ensuring that transmigration homes are upgraded from type 36 to type 45, allowing families to have more decent and comfortable living space. He explained that the decision to raise the housing standard to type 45 is important to provide at least two bedrooms, so that children and parents do not have to share the same room, which is psychologically unfavourable. The Minister hopes that long-standing transmigrant communities will not feel envious, as this facility improvement is part of a gradual enhancement, while support for resolving the issues they face remains a priority. He noted that the average transmigration home is currently type 36, but some locations have already begun constructing type 45 as part of the transition phase. He confirmed that starting next year, all transmigration homes will adopt the type 45 standard nationally, improving housing quality to meet the needs of modern families.
