Transmigrants get jobs

SEMARANG, Central Java: Some 75 families from Central Java finally got jobs at a logging company in Central Halmahera, Maluku.

Sunyoto, chief of the Central Java transmigration office said yesterday that the new settlers have begun working for PT Barito Pacific Timber which controls 35,000 hectares of forests in Halmahera.

He said that the transmigrants will be paid Rp 6,700 daily for planting the trees.

Sunyoto said that family members were also allowed to work in the concession area, filling the seed bags with soil for Rp 8 per bag. (har/par)
