Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transjakarta’s services are assessed to show a positive trend under the leadership of DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Deputy Governor Rano Karno. Indeed, this bus rapid transit (BRT)-based mode of transport is increasingly affirming its position as the backbone of mobility for the capital’s residents. Jakarta urban observer Zulfikar Marikar, in his statement in Jakarta on Friday, assessed that Transjakarta excels not only in terms of passenger capacity but also in aspects of comfort and service integration. “Transjakarta has advantages in terms of comfort and inter-modal connectivity. Its services are directly integrated with MRT and LRT through an affordable fare system,” he said. In addition, the modernisation of the fleet through the addition of electric buses is seen as strengthening the transformation of services towards environmentally friendly transportation. With a target of 100 percent electric-based fleet or 10,000 units by 2029, he said, to date Transjakarta already has 300 electric bus units, making Jakarta one of the progressive cities in the use of green transportation based on clean energy. On the other hand, the renewal of more comfortable stops supported by a digital information system also improves the quality of service to Transjakarta users. “These advantages position Transjakarta as a premium public transport with high quality, yet still with relatively affordable fares,” said Zulfikar. Data from the Central Statistics Agency of DKI Jakarta Province records that the number of Transjakarta passengers in December 2025 reached 37.46 million people. Throughout 2025, the total users reached around 413 million passengers, growing 11 percent annually compared to 2024, which recorded 372 million passengers. The average daily users also exceeded one million people. The increasing trend continued into early 2026, with the number of customers in January reaching 35.36 million people, up from the same period the previous year at 32.1 million passengers. According to Zulfikar, the increase in the number of users is inseparable from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s policies that encourage the shift to public transport. One of them is through the “Wednesday Mandatory Public Transport” programme for civil servants (ASN). In addition, the transportation subsidy policy through DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 33 of 2025 on the Provision of Free Mass Public Transport Services is also seen as contributing significantly. The regulation provides free transportation facilities to 15 vulnerable community groups. Overall, Zulfikar assesses that Transjakarta’s progress in the Pramono-Rano era shows a direction of increasingly systemic transformation. “Not only expanding services, but also strengthening integration, sustainability, and efficiency,” he said. He hopes that in the future, Transjakarta can continue to improve service performance and expand coverage to meet the increasingly high mobility needs of Jakarta residents.
