TransJakarta Subscription Scheme Proposed as a More Economical Option

The Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) has proposed a TransJakarta tariff scheme to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, including a subscription tariff claimed to be more economical for daily workers. DTKJ Chairman Sugihardjo stated that the subscription concept is widely applied in various countries to encourage the public to use public transport more regularly. The DTKJ has devised tariff schemes ranging from weekly, bi-weekly, to monthly passes. “We are pushing for subscription tariffs. Many countries abroad use a subscription system,” said Sugihardjo at Jakarta City Hall, as quoted on Tuesday (7/7/2026). He stated that the subscription tariff proposal is part of a study on adjusting public transport tariffs in Jakarta. According to him, the subscription scheme could make travel costs lighter for residents who use public transport every day, especially workers. Sugihardjo explained that the proposed monthly subscription tariff of Rp 200,000 is calculated based on the travel needs of workers who use TransJakarta daily. If the regular tariff later becomes Rp 5,000 per trip, users commuting to and from work will spend around Rp 10,000 per day. Assuming 25 working days in a month, the travel cost reaches approximately Rp 250,000. The DTKJ then proposed a 20 percent discount through the subscription scheme, bringing the tariff to Rp 200,000 per month. “If it’s 5,000 to go and 5,000 to return, that’s already Rp 10,000. Multiplied by 25 working days, it becomes Rp 250,000. Because of the subscription, we propose a 20 percent discount, so the tariff is only Rp 200,000,” he detailed. Besides the monthly package, the DTKJ is also open to options for subscription packages with shorter periods, such as weekly or bi-weekly. This scheme is expected to accommodate users who do not travel every day. The DTKJ also proposed simplifying the TransJakarta tariff groups. Going forward, the tariff within the Jakarta area is proposed to be a single group of Rp 5,000, covering BRT, non-BRT services, and integration with Mikrotrans. Meanwhile, for TransJabodetabek services, the DTKJ proposed a tariff of Rp 10,000. Sugihardjo mentioned that this tariff adjustment must be accompanied by improvements in service quality and ease of intermodal integration. Sugihardjo said the tariff study not only considers operational costs but also the public’s ability to pay. He stated that the household transport expenditure limit needs to be maintained so that public transport does not become a burden. “We are looking at how the tariff does not burden the community first,” he explained. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admitted he has received the proposal from the DTKJ regarding the adjustment of TransJabodetabek tariffs, including the subscription tariff scheme for busy corridors. The proposal is being reviewed immediately by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. “I have received the proposal. We will discuss it and a decision must be made soon, especially for the TransJabodetabek route to the airport,” Pramono told reporters on Tuesday (7/7). Pramono said discussions on the TransJabodetabek tariff adjustment are also currently underway with the DKI Jakarta DPRD. He acknowledged that the decision has been delayed from the target he previously announced. “What I promised at that time was that we would announce it within three months. It has now been more than three months, so we are currently also discussing this with the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD,” he said.
