Transjakarta services on Eid al-Fitr to start at 10:00
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) will adjust operating hours for Eid al-Fitr 2026. On Eid day, services are expected to begin around 09:00 to 10:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). Transjakarta’s President Director, Welfizon Yuza, said the adjustment is based on experience from previous years when serving major religious holidays. ‘Learning from our experience serving on major holidays, on Eid al-Fitr day we adjust operating hours. To give all employees, especially our drivers, the opportunity to perform the Idul Fitri prayers,’ he said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (4 March 2026). As a result, travel activity typically increases toward noon. ‘So we will commence operations, we estimate, perhaps at 09:00 or 10:00. Usually social visits begin at 10:00 or even after Zuhur. So we will adjust our operating hours accordingly,’ he added. In addition to adjusting hours on the first day of Eid, Transjakarta is also preparing for passenger surges during the long holiday period. According to Welfizon, journey demand usually rises toward certain tourist destinations in Jakarta and its surroundings. Some routes to have increased fleets include those heading to Ancol, Taman Mini, Ragunan, and Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), which are already served by Transjakarta. ‘These are routes where we may bolster our fleet,’ he said. Fleet expansion will be adjusted according to need and passenger demand. ‘We will monitor demand and then adjust the number of vehicles accordingly,’ explained Welfizon. Regarding fares, Welfizon noted that Transjakarta services will be free during Eid al-Fitr 2026. ‘Last Eid during the Ramadan Festival, the Governor announced it would be free. So we will wait for the announcement on how many days, which dates; we will see,’ he said. He added that free transport on major religious holidays is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s commitment to promoting the use of public transport. Transjakarta is prepared to implement the policy if an official decision has been announced.
