Transjakarta Permits Passengers to Break Fast on Buses, Maximum Duration 10 Minutes
Jakarta — PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) is permitting passengers to break their fast with drinking water and light snacks whilst using Transjakarta services and fleet vehicles.
The policy took effect from 1 Ramadan 1447 Hijriah, or Thursday, 19 February 2026.
“We want to ensure that passengers can observe their fast comfortably, including when the time to break the fast arrives mid-journey,” said Transjakarta’s Head of Public Relations and CSR, Ayu Wardhani, in a statement cited from ANTARA on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
She said passengers would be permitted to eat and drink on buses for a maximum of 10 minutes following the Maghrib call to prayer.
However, she reminded passengers to maintain cleanliness and comfort across all Transjakarta service areas.
Furthermore, she noted that during Ramadan, Transjakarta would continue to operate normally, serving the public 24 hours a day across its 14 main corridors.
Previously, the government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, held the Isbat Session on Tuesday (17 February) and determined that the start of fasting, or 1 Ramadan 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE, would fall on Thursday, 19 February.
The decision differed from that of the central leadership of Muhammadiyah, which had set the start of Ramadan one day earlier, on Wednesday, 18 February.
The Isbat Session took into account preliminary information based on astronomical calculations (hisab) and field confirmation through the mechanism of new moon observation (rukyatul hilal).
The session was attended by representatives of religious organisations, astronomy experts, House of Representatives Commission VIII, and representatives of friendly nations.
