Transjakarta Opens Special Ancol Route, Residents Can Reach the Beach for Just Rp3,500
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is expanding public transport access to the Car-Free Day (HBKB) area by opening a special Transjakarta route from Bundaran Senayan to Ancol. The service, which began operating on Sunday (9/8/2026), allows residents to enjoy Jakarta’s coastal area at the regular fare of Rp3,500.
The special HBKB Ancol route, designated 15ST, connects Bundaran Senayan with Bundaran Symphony of The Sea in the Ancol area. The service operates every Sunday from 06:00 to 10:00 WIB using seven electric buses with a waiting time of around 15–20 minutes.
For residents, the service does more than simply add a transport option. The route opens easier access from the Sudirman–Thamrin HBKB area to recreational and sporting spaces on Jakarta’s coast.
Wanti (26), a resident of East Jakarta, welcomed the service. According to her, travel costs have become more affordable because passengers can directly access the Ancol area using Transjakarta.
“So for Rp3,500, we can go to Ancol without having to pay an entrance ticket again,” Wanti told Republika on Wednesday (12/8/2026).
Putra (32), a resident of Tebet, South Jakarta, also assessed that the route provides an alternative for residents who want to exercise outside the city centre area.
According to him, Ancol offers a different atmosphere compared with Sudirman or Rasuna Said because residents can exercise against the backdrop of a coastal area.
“If possible, it would be better every day, not just on Sundays. So that more people can make use of it, or perhaps it could run Saturday–Sunday on the weekend,” said Putra.
Route 15ST has a total length of 34.9 kilometres with 18 stopping points. The journey starts from Bundaran Senayan and passes Senayan Bank Jakarta, Polda Metro Jaya, Bendungan Hilir, Karet, Dukuh Atas, Tosari, Bundaran HI Astra, M.H. Thamrin, Kebon Sirih, Monumen Nasional, Pecenongan, Juanda, Pasar Baru Timur, Jembatan Merah, Gunung Sahari, Pademangan, up to Bundaran Symphony of The Sea.
In addition to the special service, the Ancol area remains accessible via the regular Transjakarta network. A number of routes already serve the Ancol area and are connected to other transport networks in Jakarta.
Connecting Two Public Activity Spaces
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the new route connects the city centre HBKB area with the Ancol recreation area. With this connectivity, residents have the option to exercise while enjoying public spaces without having to use private vehicles.
“This route connects two Car-Free Day areas in Jakarta, so residents have a comfortable mobility option for exercising, recreation, and enjoying public spaces,” said Pramono on Sunday (9/8/2026).
According to him, the additional service is part of efforts to expand public transport connectivity in Jakarta. The provincial government wants more residents’ journeys to be made using public transport.
This policy direction is also proceeding alongside the development of rail-based networks. The LRT Jakarta Velodrome–Manggarai corridor is targeted to operate in August 2026. The corridor will extend the LRT Jakarta network to Manggarai and connect it with the KRL Commuter Line, Airport Rail Link, and Transjakarta.
“Even now the increase is already quite high, on average whether it is MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek,” said Pramono.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting improved connectivity so that public transport becomes not only a choice for work journeys, but also for sports, recreation, and weekend activities.
Easier Access to the Beach
Head of Transjakarta’s Public Relations and CSR Department Ayu Wardhani said the HBKB Ancol route was prepared primarily to make it easier for residents from the Sudirman and Senayan areas to reach Ancol.
“The hope is that journeys to the HBKB Ancol area become easier, safer, and more enjoyable,” said Ayu.
According to her, the route development is part of Transjakarta’s efforts to expand service coverage while adapting transport patterns to community activities.
To support operations, Transjakarta has prepared service officers, customer service staff, route security, and travel information systems. The opening of the special route also strengthens Ancol’s position as an area that can be reached by public transport.
Previously, Transjakarta had operated route 1W Blok M–Ancol using electric buses. The service is one of the direct routes connecting the southern part of Jakarta with Ancol.
With the additional HBKB service, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is trying to change residents’ weekend travel patterns: not only reducing private vehicles in the city centre, but also bringing public transport users to other sports and recreation spaces.
