Transjakarta, LRT Jakarta, and MRT Jakarta Free During Eid 2026

JAKARTA—Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that all public transport services will be made free during Eid al-Fitr 2026.

The subsidised public transport services will include the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT), JakLingko, and Transjakarta bus rapid transit system.

“During Eid al-Fitr, we will make all transport in Jakarta free of charge,” said Pramono whilst opening the Jakarta Ramadan Festival at Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta on Friday, 27 February 2026.

The initiative is intended to encourage residents to switch to public transport, thereby reducing congestion during periods of increased mobility.

“Why are we doing this? Once again, to encourage people that rather than facing traffic jams or shopping abroad and so on, it is better to stay in Jakarta,” he continued.

Pramono also stated that the hotel and shopping centre sectors will be encouraged to offer substantial discounts through tax incentives from the regional government.

The programme’s peak is scheduled to run from 31 March 2026, featuring various city entertainment events, including light festivals and a themed event entitled “Mudik ke Jakarta” (Return to Jakarta).

“Because we will provide convenience and tax incentives for shopping centres, hotels, and so on, so that they can then offer significant discounts,” said Pramono.

“Jakarta provides everything. If you want to celebrate Eid, you can now do so via video call. I will also video call my family. So this means we can stay in Jakarta to enjoy Jakarta,” he added.
