TransJakarta Kemayoran pedestrian overpass allegedly becomes a bed for the homeless

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Kemayoran Pedestrian Overpass in Central Jakarta has been described as a bed for the homeless. In a video posted by the Instagram account @jakarta.terkini, three men thought to be homeless were seen sleeping on the wooden floor of the Kemayoran JPO during the afternoon. The trio were sleeping on their sides and stomachs. On the western side of the overpass, passers-by were using the crossing, disrupting those trying to cross. Kompas.com visited the JPO in Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (8/3/2026). Based on observations at 15:00 WIB, there were no people suspected of homelessness sleeping on the JPO. The overpass was quiet, with only one or two commuters passing to the Transjakarta Kemayoran stop. The entire structure was free of homeless individuals, and only one Transjakarta patrol officer was monitoring the site, inspecting the wooden floor that had holes. ‘I’ve not seen anyone sleeping here since 13:00 WIB,’ Febri told Kompas.com. ‘According to other officers, it wasn’t observed yesterday either,’ he added. However, Transjakarta officers are currently collecting information about rough sleepers reportedly sleeping on the Kemayoran JPO.
