TransJakarta Free During Eid Al-Fitr
TransJakarta services will be free during Eid. The policy had previously been announced by the Governor of DKI Jakarta and awaits the official decree from the Department of Transportation.
‘The Governor has already said it will be free. We will wait for the date to be determined by the Department of Transportation,’ Welfizon Yuza, Chief Executive of PT Transportasi Jakarta, told reporters on Wednesday 4 March.
In the system, the free service is still recorded as Rp1 on the electronic card. The value is used to process transactions within the payment system. Technologically, there must be a rupiah value transferred from the card; hence it is converted to Rp1.
On the first day of Eid, TransJakarta operations will start later than usual, around 09:00 or 10:00 WIB. The adjustment is because most drivers and staff observe Eid al-Fitr prayers.
After that, the fleet will be focused on several tourist spots that are typically crowded during Eid holidays. Among those of concern are Ragunan Wildlife Park, Ancol Dreamland, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah.
‘We are studying the possibility of direct routes, for example from Corridor 13 Ciledug directly to Ragunan,’ said Welfizon.
Additional fleet capacity is situational. Overall passenger numbers during Eid typically decline, so vehicles can be redeployed to busier routes.
The Jakarta Provincial Government is waiving fares for TransJakarta and MRT for a week.
