TransJakarta Fares to Rise Soon, Pramono Confirms 15 Groups Remain Free

The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has confirmed that the proposed adjustment to public transport service fares is still being discussed with the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD). DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stressed that the decision would consider the public’s financial capacity and the amount of subsidy provided by the government. He stated that the fare adjustment discussion is now a priority in the preparation of the regional budget (APBD) with the DPRD. “This is currently in the APBD discussion stage with the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD, but it is a priority to be decided soon,” Pramono said at DKI Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (8/7). According to him, the fare policy will not burden groups of residents who have been receiving free transport services. However, standard fares will increase in the near future. “What is clear is that the Deputy Governor and I will certainly consider the welfare of our community. Because there are 15 groups that we continue to add to the free list, so anyone who experiences a fare increase will certainly be people who can afford it,” he said. He added that the free transport service programme for the 15 community groups would be maintained and he has instructed that the policy be continuously strengthened.
