Transjakarta Enhances Safety Measures: Addressing Driver Fatigue

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – PT Transjakarta continues to strengthen its efforts to improve the safety of its services. One of its main focuses is to anticipate driver fatigue to reduce the risk of accidents.

The Director of PT Transjakarta, Welfizon Yuza, said that this activity aims to remind all stakeholders of their responsibilities, commitment, and discipline, especially drivers, in maintaining the safety aspects of the service. Drivers are expected to report any conditions or incidents that could potentially disrupt the safety of the journey.

“We are committed to making safety a priority so that we can save many lives and minimise losses,” said Welfizon, in a written statement, Thursday (26/2/2026). This facility serves as a rapid communication channel when drivers experience fatigue or health problems while on duty.

“Through this service, drivers can immediately contact officers and pull over so that passengers can be transferred to the next bus,” said Welfizon.

Welfizon emphasised that the accident involving two Transjakarta buses on Corridor 13 on the Cipulir non-toll flyover is an important lesson that must not be repeated. Following the incident, all drivers serving on Corridor 13 are required to undergo health checks before operating. If their physical condition is deemed unsuitable for driving, drivers are asked to rest first.

This policy confirms that human factors are a primary concern in the public transport safety system. “I ask all drivers to continue to maintain professionalism to ensure that Transjakarta services remain safe and comfortable for the public,” he said.

By combining health checks, a driver hotline, and reinforcing a culture of honesty regarding physical condition, Transjakarta aims to ensure that safety is not just a slogan, but a real practice in daily operations.
