Transjakarta Driver Who Caused Head-On Skyway Crash Not Detained After Being Named a Suspect
Y, a Transjakarta bus driver who caused a head-on collision with another bus on the skyway in the Kebayoran Lama area, South Jakarta, on Monday, 23 February 2026, has not been detained despite being named a suspect.
‘His status is now that he is a suspect. He is not in detention at this time,’ said Kombes Pol Komarudin, Director of Traffic at the Metro Jaya Regional Police, when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
Nevertheless, the examination and legal process against Y are still being pursued by police.
Y is charged under Article 310(2) of Law Number 22 of 2009 on Traffic and Road Transport. He faces up to one year in prison and/or a Rp2,000,000 fine for causing minor injuries to a victim and damage to vehicles.
Earlier reports stated that two Transjakarta buses clashed on the skyway in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, on Monday, 23 February 2026. At that time, the bus driven by Y was travelling from Cipulir Halt towards Seskoal Halt. In a turn, Y’s bus collided with the opposite-direction bus driven by AS.
Head of the Legal Enforcement Sub-division (Gakkum) of the Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Ojo Ruslani, said the incident occurred because the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel.
‘Y admitted he dozed off while driving, causing his vehicle to enter the opposite lane and the collision occurred,’ Ojo said in a statement on Monday.
Furthermore, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said Y was also fatigued from working for two days prior. ‘And indeed he was working for two days; the sleepiness may have been due to not being able to control it, so his bus entered the opposite lane,’ Pramono said when met at Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.
As a result of the incident, 24 passengers on the AS bus sustained minor injuries. All passengers subsequently received treatment at Asih Ciledug Hospital and Mulya Slipi Hospital.
