TransJakarta Driver Alleged to be Reckless; Sudden Braking to Avoid Motorcycle
Passengers of TransJakarta have complained about the driving manner of a Corridor 2 bus driver (route Monas-Pulogadung, bus code TJ0205), alleging reckless driving. The driver reportedly braked suddenly, causing several passengers to fall.
The complaint was shared via the X accounts @Music_Cadas and @RadioElshinta. In the post, the account claimed the bus was driven at uncontrollable speeds, including sudden braking during the journey.
“Throughout the journey, the driver drove recklessly, increasing speed uncontrollably through gaps in vehicles and frequently braking suddenly,” the account wrote on Friday (11/9).
According to the uploader, the most severe incident occurred at the intersection below the Senen flyover, before the Toyota Rangga Bus Stop. The extreme braking caused passengers in the articulated section of the bus to fall, with some female passengers reportedly hitting the floor.
The uploader also noted that some passengers were knocked onto others due to the sudden stop. Furthermore, the uploader accused the driver of failing to provide clarification after arriving at the Toyota Rangga Bus Stop, alleging that the driver refused to disembark or show identification despite passengers requesting an explanation.
The uploader also highlighted that the bus reportedly began moving again before the doors were fully closed, viewing this as a potential safety hazard and calling for action against the driver.
TransJakarta responded to the complaint via its official X account, @PT_Transjakarta. In its response, TransJakarta apologised for the incident and stated that the report had been forwarded to the relevant unit for investigation and follow-up.
“Hi, we apologise for the incident experienced. The report has been forwarded to the relevant unit for checking and follow-up under report number TJ-TICO9260009347,” the company stated. TransJakarta also inquired about the condition of the passengers and requested confirmation if any injuries had occurred.
The complaint also drew the attention of Prastowo Yustinus, Deputy Coordinator of Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta, who provided a brief response on X: “It will be evaluated by management.”
At the time of writing, there has been no further information regarding the results of the investigation into driver TJ0205 or the condition of the passengers.
Alternative Version from Netizens
Meanwhile, a user on Threads shared an alternative version of the story. The account @studiokita_id claimed the sudden braking was caused by an online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol) suddenly cutting into the TransJakarta lane.
“Everyone inside the bus was thrown forward. We were all shocked,” the user stated. However, according to this account, some passengers were angry and blamed the driver. The driver reportedly exited the cabin to apologise to the passengers. The user added that the driver remained patient and approached an angry passenger to apologise again.
TransJakarta Refutation
TransJakarta’s Head of Public Relations and CSR, Ayu Wardhani, refuted the initial narrative regarding reckless driving.
“The sudden braking was performed by the driver as a reflexive action to avoid a collision with a two-wheeled vehicle that suddenly cut into the lane,” she said in a written statement. Despite this, she apologised to customers for the inconvenience.
“Our field officers immediately checked on the customers’ condition. All passengers on the vehicle have been confirmed safe and did not suffer injuries,” she added.
She stated that TransJakarta had reviewed CCTV footage and ensured all procedures were followed according to standard. “The driver acted promptly to brake,” she concluded.
