Transjakarta Confirms Sexual Harassment Incident on Puri Beta Bus Route, Suspect Blacklisted

PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) has confirmed an incident of alleged sexual harassment on a bus serving the Puri Beta route and has ensured the suspected perpetrator was removed and handed over to the authorities. Head of the Transjakarta Public Relations and CSR Department, Ayu Wardhani, stated that management regrets the incident and stressed that the safety and comfort of service users is the main priority. “The security and comfort of customers is Transjakarta’s top priority. In response to the alleged sexual harassment incident that occurred, we regret and confirm the event,” Ayu said when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday. She explained that officers on standby in the field acted swiftly upon receiving information from a passenger, immediately (mengamankan) the victim and the suspected perpetrator at the scene. In addition to providing initial protection and assistance to the victim, Transjakarta also coordinated with the police for further legal proceedings. Ayu revealed that Transjakarta management has imposed strict sanctions in the form of a blacklist against the suspected perpetrator, barring him from using Transjakarta services in the future. She also urged passengers to look out for one another and not hesitate to report any suspicious or disturbing behaviour. “We also invite all customers to look out for each other, and to report to the call centre and field officers if they experience any discomfort while using Transjakarta services,” Ayu said. Previously, a video circulated on social media uploaded by the account @lbj_jakarta showing a Transjakarta passenger suspected of committing sexual harassment. The account wrote that Transjakarta officers secured a man suspected of sexually harassing a female passenger on a bus on the Puri Beta route. “The incident occurred on Tuesday (21/7) evening. This incident began when the perpetrator stood close to the victim and allegedly deliberately unzipped his trousers. Fortunately, this suspicious action was immediately noticed by other passengers nearby,” the account wrote.
