Transjakarta Clarifies Viral 40 Km/h Speed Limit on Corridor 13
JAKARTA - A video clip circulating on social media showing a green sign indicating that the speed is locked at 40 km/h has gone viral. The sign was hung on the front windscreen of the bus. The passenger who uploaded the video suspected that the speed of the Transjakarta bus on Corridor 13 had been restricted to 40 km/h due to an accident that occurred some time ago. For information, in February 2024, a traffic accident involving two Transjakarta buses occurred on the elevated track (flyover) of Corridor 13, specifically around the Cipulir stop. The two Transjakarta buses collided head-on and sustained severe damage, with the front sections badly crumpled. The reason for this speed limit is not a new rule created after the incident on Corridor 13. Ayu explained that, in general, the maximum speed for Transjakarta buses is set at 50 km/h, taking into account safety and customer comfort aspects, especially since there are standing passengers during the journey. “Specifically for Corridor 13, the operational speed limit is set at a maximum of 40 km/h. This considers the different route characteristics,” she said. More specifically, the considerations include that Corridor 13 is an elevated route (skyway) with a certain height. It also features turns and a route contour that require greater caution. Additionally, there are operational safety factors on the dedicated lane separated from general traffic.
