Transjakarta Cares Opens Mobility Path for Disabled Citizens
For Dian Hendriyani, travelling by public transport is not merely about moving from one place to another. As a person with low vision sensory disability, a sense of safety and assistance during the journey are essential parts of her daily mobility.
The 35-year-old from Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, has used Transjakarta Cares several times, a special service provided by PT Transportasi Jakarta for people with disabilities.
“My experience using Transcare was very pleasant, calm and safe, because there is always a pramusapa task force member who helps and accompanies me when boarding and alighting from the vehicle,” Dian told Republika on Wednesday (19/8/2026).
The service can be booked one day before departure, or H-1, through the Transjakarta service centre or WhatsApp. The vehicle then helps customers travel to or from disability-friendly Transjakarta stops. For Dian, this service model makes travel easier without being overly dependent on others.
“It greatly facilitates people with disabilities in accessing public transport, because they can reach their destination more quickly,” she said.
She hopes the service will be maintained and expanded. One thing Dian believes is still needed is additional vehicles so that more people with disabilities can access the service. That hope is beginning to be answered through the addition of five Transjakarta Cares units.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government received vehicle assistance from the Permata Foundation at the Transjakarta Bundaran Hotel Indonesia Astra stop in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (13/8/2026). The addition brings the Transjakarta Cares fleet from 15 to 20 units.
Throughout 2025, the 15 available vehicles served 71,598 disabled passengers, an increase of 16.1 percent compared with the previous year. The figure shows that the need for specialised mobility services is not small.
PT Transportasi Jakarta President Director Welfizon Yuza said Transjakarta Cares has been operating since October 2016 to help people with disabilities gain access to Transjakarta services.
“The assistance of five vehicles from the Permata Foundation is not merely an addition of facilities, but an expansion of mobility access, opportunity and independence for people with disabilities,” Welfizon said.
DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno assessed that the additional vehicles strengthen the direction of Jakarta’s increasingly inclusive public transport policy. “On behalf of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, we express our highest gratitude and appreciation for the contribution and consistent concern of the Permata Foundation towards Transjakarta,” Rano said.
According to him, the development of Jakarta’s public transport is not only measured by the addition of routes or passenger numbers. Services must also be usable by people with different mobility needs. The addition of five vehicles is expected to expand the reach of Transjakarta Cares and provide greater mobility space for people with disabilities.
Transport observer Djoko Setijowarno assessed that such services are a form of government support for community groups that need extra assistance in using public transport.
“This is a form of service for the community in Jakarta as well. Yes, a form of evidence of care for disabled citizens,” Djoko told Republika on Wednesday (19/8/2026).
According to him, the real needs of the community are the reason the service should not only be maintained but also developed. “I think, looking at the service, from what I read in the news it is good. Many people use it. I think it needs to be maintained and increased, if possible,” he said.
Transjakarta Cares itself has been operating since October 2016. At the start of its operation, the service was supported by five vehicles. The number then grew to 15 units and, after the latest assistance, to 20 vehicles.
Strengthening accessibility is also being carried out on stop infrastructure. Transjakarta and the Permata Foundation are working together to refurbish the Wira stop on Jalan Prof. Dr. Supomo through a naming rights scheme. The revitalisation is aimed at making the stop greener, more comfortable and friendlier for people with disabilities.
“We hope this partnership between a regional-owned enterprise and a social institution can become a benchmark in translating commercial value into social value whose impact can be felt directly by the community,” Welfizon said.
Permata Foundation representative Haris Candra said the handover of five vehicles is part of the institution’s commitment to expanding equality of access for people with disabilities.
“The support of five Transjakarta Cares fleet units is a tangible manifestation of our contribution to creating an inclusive citizen mobility system,” Haris said.
