Transjakarta Bus Strikes Ride-Hailing Motorcyclist on Gunung Sahari, Motorcycle Lodged in Bumper
An accident involving a Transjakarta bus and an online ride-hailing (ojol) motorcycle driver occurred on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (24 February) at approximately 08:45 local time.
The incident began when a Volvo Transjakarta bus with registration plate B-7172-PGA, driven by RD, was travelling from north to south along Jalan Gunung Sahari.
“Upon arriving at the scene, near Toko Kimia Gunung Sahari Raya 2H, the bus allegedly collided with a Yamaha Mio 125 motorcycle driven by S, who was at that time travelling from the north and intending to turn westward on Jalan Gunung Sahari,” said Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKBP Ojo Ruslani, in a statement on Tuesday.
As a result of the accident, the ride-hailing driver, identified by the initial S, sustained injuries. The victim was subsequently taken to Hermina Kemayoran Hospital for medical treatment.
Separately, Transjakarta’s Head of Public Relations and CSR, Ayu Wardhani, stated that at the time of the incident the bus was moving because the traffic light was green.
“At the time of the incident, the bus was proceeding in accordance with the green light, but contact occurred with the motorcyclist who allegedly made a sudden turn in the yellow box area,” she said.
Ayu noted that the Transjakarta bus was carrying passengers at the time. She said all passengers were in good condition and were immediately evacuated to another bus.
“Transjakarta apologises for the inconvenience to passengers’ journeys,” she said.
Furthermore, Ayu stated that her organisation was coordinating with the police and was committed to cooperating fully in the investigation into the precise cause of the incident. She added that CCTV recordings had been handed over to the authorities.
“Transjakarta once again urges all road users to always obey traffic signs for the sake of collective safety,” she said.
Information about the accident was captured in a video that circulated on social media, including one uploaded by the Instagram account @balewartawanjakpus10.
In the uploaded video, the ride-hailing driver’s motorcycle can be seen lodged in the front bumper of the Transjakarta bus. The front bumper of the bus was also visibly damaged as a result of the collision.
