Transjakarta Bus Stop at Tanah Abang Becomes Street Vendor Lane Ahead of Eid
JAKARTA — Tanah Abang Market was again packed with visitors on Monday, 16 March 2026, ahead of Eid celebrations.
The surge in shoppers hunting for holiday clothing and supplies has made activity around the market extremely crowded, extending even to the bus stop area.
Based on observations by Kompas.com at the location, several street vendors were seen utilising the Transjakarta Explorer Tanah Abang bus stop area as a selling point.
This situation transformed the pedestrian walkway, which should serve as access for bus passengers, into an impromptu market corridor.
Vendors were selling various types of clothing, ranging from abayas, shirts, to trousers.
“Pick one, pick one, pick one, buy one madam,” shouted one vendor.
The conditions made movement between visitors and passengers alighting from Transjakarta increasingly cramped as they had to share space with vendor stalls.
The situation became even more crowded when buses arrived and passengers disembarked at the stop.
Many people were forced to squeeze through aisles filled with hanging clothes and informal vendor stalls.
Even handcarts approximately 120 centimetres wide occupied the bus stop area.
These conditions left the bus stop area dirty with rubbish scattered about.
One clothing vendor, Efrizal (48), admitted he deliberately sold near the bus stop to make it convenient for passing shoppers.
According to him, many visitors were reluctant to venture too far into the market proper.
