A TransJakarta bus on the Monas–Pulo Gadung route suddenly began emitting thick white smoke. Passengers were evacuated from the bus.

On Friday (16 October 2026), detikcom observed an articulated TransJakarta bus emitting thick white smoke from its rear. The bus had stopped in the dedicated TransJakarta bus lane, or busway.

The smoke then covered the surrounding road. Several vehicles appeared to slow down because of the smoke. The incident was reported to have taken place in Senen, Central Jakarta.

“TransJakarta offers its deepest apologies for the inconvenience caused by smoke coming from bus DMR-721, operated by Damri, on Corridor 2 (National Monument–Pulo Gadung) towards Pulo Gadung,” said Ayu Wardhani, head of TransJakarta’s Public Relations and CSR Department.

She said TransJakarta was inspecting and evaluating bus DMR-721. Passengers on the bus were safely evacuated to another vehicle.

“Customer safety is our top priority. All passengers were evacuated quickly and safely to the next bus so they could continue their journey,” Ayu said.
