TransJakarta accident must prompt serious evaluation of the operator
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The B Commission of the Jakarta DPRD has said that the accident involving a TransJakarta bus operated BMP 263 and MYS 17100 on Corridor 13 (Puri Beta-Petukangan) along Swadarma Street heading towards Cipulir, South Jakarta, on Monday (23 February), should be taken as a serious evaluation for the operator of public transport.
‘The incident must be a wake-up call for TransJakarta so that similar events do not recur,’ said Commission B chair Nova Harivan Paloh during a meeting to discuss the 2027 Draft Regional Government Work Plan (Pra-RKPD) with several Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD) in Jakarta.
He stressed that passenger safety is non-negotiable as TransJakarta serves millions of residents daily.
‘TransJakarta carries around 1.3 million passengers every day, so safety must be genuinely enhanced,’ he said.
Commission B, he added, spotlighted a number of factors needing attention, ranging from driver readiness to the operational supervision system.
Meanwhile, Eli Suharini Eliawati, Assistant for Economy and Finance of the Jakarta Provincial Secretary, said the incident had drawn the attention of the regional government and was being evaluated immediately.
‘With yesterday’s incident, the governor has given us directions and this is a material for TransJakarta and its staff’s introspection,’ Eli said.
In addition to human error, the DKI Provincial Government is also evaluating several other technical aspects of fleet operations.
‘We are also looking at the age of vehicles, driver rest facilities, and work-shift arrangements that are of concern,’ he said.
Commission B of the Jakarta DPRD confirms that evaluation of TransJakarta’s operations will continue through further working meetings with the related BUMD to strengthen public transport safety standards in Jakarta.
