Transjakarta Accident: Legislator Urges Provincial Government to Overhaul Management System
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Member of the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD, Francine Widjojo, has urged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to immediately improve the Transjakarta management system following another accident involving the public transport service.
“I urge the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to ensure that this accident does not happen again in the future,” Francine said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Francine requested that the management system be improved so that drivers can be assigned to collect buses from depots located near their homes.
According to her, in the recent accident, which resulted in 24 passengers sustaining minor injuries due to the impact of the collision, the driver, whose initials are Y, is suspected of having been drowsy and driving into the opposite lane.
Francine emphasised that this accident is a painful lesson for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and Transjakarta, and they should not allow drivers to operate buses while drowsy.
“Drivers must not drive vehicles when they are drowsy. Transjakarta must ensure that its drivers are always in prime condition when driving,” said the member of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD.
Moreover, some of Transjakarta’s fleets are already equipped with driver monitoring systems, namely the “Advanced Driver Assistance System” and the “Driver Monitoring System”.
“This expensive equipment was purchased with taxes and fare revenue from the public, which should guarantee the safety of passengers on the roads,” she said.
According to Francine, the Transjakarta bus accident on corridor 13 shows that there is a problem with the management of the Transjakarta fleet. Therefore, she asked Transjakarta to ensure that all of its fleets are equipped with the “Advanced Driver Assistance System” and “Driver Monitoring System” (ADAS/DMS) that function properly.
“It needs to be checked whether all Transjakarta buses, including the Mikrotrans minibuses, are equipped with ADAS/DMS and connected to the existing command centre,” she said.
If not, Francine asked Transjakarta to immediately install these devices to be able to detect drowsy drivers early on before an accident occurs.
She also asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to ensure that all victims receive the best possible care and recover quickly. “I urge the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to ensure that this accident does not happen again in the future,” she added.
