Public transport services in the capital are continuously being expanded by the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta), including the introduction of new Transjabodetabek routes. The policy has received positive public reception, as evidenced by steadily rising passenger numbers.

Since its inauguration on 22 May 2025, the Transjabodetabek T31 route from Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 to Blok M has served 1,409,872 passengers. This Jakarta-Banten corridor has become a popular choice for residents travelling to residential areas, business districts, and tourist destinations in PIK and Blok M.

In its first month of operation, the T31 route recorded 112,344 passengers, a figure that has since grown to over 1.4 million within a year.

Ayu Wardhani, Head of Transjakarta’s Public Relations and CSR Department, stated that the route is used not only by commuters and students but also tourists and residents seeking to access PIK and Blok M without traffic congestion or parking hassles.

‘There has been an increase in public mobility, particularly on weekends and holidays, indicating that public transport is now increasingly becoming part of residents’ lifestyle,’ she said on Friday, 22 May 2026.

Wardhani added that positive public response is evident across other Transjabodetabek routes, prompting Transjakarta to strengthen services to facilitate movement between suburban areas and Jakarta.

Fast and affordable

Republika recently tested the T31 route. Departing from Blok M at around 11:22 WIB, the bus carried approximately 20 passengers, mostly elderly women, with some younger individuals heading to PIK for activities or leisure.

The vintage series buses, launched in 2017 to commemorate the legacy of Pengangkut Penumpang Djakarta (PPD), offer comfortable seating for long journeys to PIK 2.

One passenger, Alin, said she specifically tried the T31 route to experience the service firsthand. The Kebayoran resident previously used the 1A route from Balai Kota to Pantai Maju to reach PIK.

‘I tried this bus. Usually I go from Monas. This is my first time,’ she said.
