Transjabodetabek Follows Transjakarta's Lead: Switching to Electric Buses

Jakarta - The Transjabodetabek bus service is also planned to utilise electric vehicles. Gatot Indra Koswara, Senior Specialist in Transformation and Change Management at Transjakarta, stated that Transjakarta is gradually transitioning to electric vehicles as part of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions. “In fact, it can be proven that the electric bus has a sufficient kilometre range, no less than conventional buses. The battery capacity is also quite large, the energy efficiency is quite good, and the range is also quite okay,” he said to Kompas.com a few days ago. The Transjabodetabek service covers a total of 16 routes. Meanwhile, the longest current route is from Bogor (Baranangsiang Terminal) to Blok M (P11), with a track length of 113.3 kilometres. However, based on the use of electric buses in the Transjakarta service, Gatot believes that electric buses are also capable for Transjabodetabek despite the long distances. “So if asked whether Transjabodetabek buses can use electric buses? Why not?” he said. The procurement of electric buses for Transjakarta currently amounts to 470 units by the end of 2025.
