Transjabodetabek fares to be adjusted, Provincial Government promises affordability
The Jakarta Provincial Government has confirmed that the planned fare adjustments for several Transjabodetabek routes will continue to take the economic capacity of the public into account. Chico Hakim, Special Staff to the Governor and Vice Governor of Jakarta for Public Communications, stated that Transjakarta services, including Transjabodetabek, serve a public service function, making fare affordability a primary concern for the government. “The Jakarta Provincial Government adheres to the principle that Transjakarta (including Transjabodetabek) involves a Public Service Obligation (PSO) element, which prioritises the economic considerations of the community,” Chico said in Jakarta on Sunday. Nevertheless, Chico noted that the specific rates for Transjabodetlagbek have not yet been decided. He also did not specify which routes would undergo fare adjustments, stating that this is still under internal discussion. Previously, the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, stated that several Transjabodetabek routes would undergo fare adjustments this month, including the Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta Airport route. “Regarding the fare for the Blok M-Soekarno Hatta Transjabodetabek route, we will decide shortly. In the coming months, we will decide on several routes, not just Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta, but other Transjabodetabek routes that require adjustment,” Pramono explained. He noted that the adjustment is necessary due to the excessively large amount of subsidies currently being provided. Consequently, Pramono has decided to proceed with adjusting fares on several routes, though he has yet to detail which specific routes will be affected.
