Transjabodetabek Fare Hike Planned but Subsidies to Remain, Governor Assures

The tariff for Transjabodetabek is planned to increase, and a number of residents have expressed objections. However, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has assured that subsidies will remain in place. Pramono stated that there will be several adjustments. He cited the example of the fare for the Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta Airport route, which is currently Rp 3,500. “Frankly, we will decide soon. But I want to set the record straight, because even yesterday the Mayor of Bekasi called me personally, asking that subsidies not be removed. It is impossible for them not to be subsidised; they will definitely continue to be subsidised,” Pramono said in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (10/6/2026). “Suitcases can also be brought onto the bus. Compared to Damri, which at its cheapest is Rp 80,000, and taxis averaging Rp 200,000, if Rp 3,500 is not even enough for parking at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, then adjustments will be made,” he added. Pramono explained that the size of the subsidy from Jakarta is also influenced by the cost of maintaining Transjabodetabek service infrastructure. He said that almost all bus stops, even those outside Jakarta, are maintained using the Jakarta provincial budget. “Why is the subsidy currently so large? Because we have to maintain almost all bus stops, even those not in the Jakarta area. That is the reason why there will be adjustments,” he stated.

Not all fares will increase. Pramono Anung said his administration is still finalising the Transjabodetabek fare adjustments. He confirmed that not all Transjabodetabek fares will rise. “(The fares) will be finalised soon. For now, the existing fares remain, but a decision will be made shortly,” Pramono told reporters at City Hall on Friday (12/6/2026). “But I want to clarify once again that not all Transjabodetabek fares will increase,” he added. Pramono said some fares will be aligned with Transjakarta tariffs. “If there are adjustments, they will certainly be the same as Transjakarta,” he said. He revealed that the number of passengers on the Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta Airport route is very high. According to him, the number of users on this route has exceeded the target. “The evaluation is actually simple, the demand is very high. Previously, the target was 2,000 per day, but it turned out to be more than that. Because people’s activity going to the airport is high,” he said.

The Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has urged that fares remain affordable. Deputy Speaker of the DPRD DKI Jakarta, Rany Mauliani, responded to the planned fare increase for the Transjabodetabek service. She requested that the fare adjustment plan be carried out carefully, meaning it must consider affordability for the public. “Every plan to adjust public transport fares must be undertaken very carefully and based on a comprehensive study. Currently, the public is still facing various cost-of-living pressures, so the aspect of affordability must be the primary consideration in any fare policy,” Rany told reporters on Saturday (13/6/2026). She assessed that Transjabodetabek plays a strategic role as a mode of transport connecting Jakarta with its buffer zones. Transjabodetabek is also a mainstay for workers in Jakarta who commute from Bekasi, Bogor, and Tangerang. “Therefore, before deciding on a fare increase, the Jakarta Provincial Government needs to ensure that service quality, comfort, punctuality, and intermodal integration are truly improved and directly felt by the public,” she said. Rany acknowledged the provincial government’s need to maintain service sustainability and adjust operational costs on several long-distance Transjabodetabek routes. “However, such a policy must not reduce the public’s interest in using public transport or even push them back to using private vehicles,” she stated.

Residents have expressed their hopes. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government plans to increase Transjabodetabek transport fares. Residents oppose the increase and are calling for synergy between the Jakarta Provincial Government and the West Java Provincial Government. “If possible, I hope it doesn’t go up. It’s the cheapest transport,” said a Transjabodetabek user from Bogor, Anggi (33), at the Blok M Terminal on Thursday (11/6/2026). “I agree with cooperation (between Jakarta and West Java), because transport there (Bogor) is still quite difficult,” she added. Anggi worries that a fare increase for Transjabodetabek, which connects Jakarta with Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi, will burden passengers. Moreover, Anggi admitted she often uses Transjabodetabek to support her daily mobility. “What I’m worried about is just the increase in transport costs,” she said. Another Jakarta resident, Heri Sumarsono, who frequently travels to Bogor, hopes the fare will be maintained. According to him, a price increase would burden the community. “Even though I am a senior citizen, I do not agree if the fare goes up. I feel sorry for those under 50 because they still pay the regular fare,” said Heri. Heri believes that Transjabodetabek fare facilities should indeed be affordable for residents. Especially since many rely on it for their daily commute to and from work. “I hope it stays flat, for the sake of others,” he said.
