The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta is planning to adjust Transjabodetabek fares in the near future. This follows concerns that the public transport service to the capital’s buffer zones is increasingly burdening Jakarta’s Regional Budget (APBD).

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that so far, only the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has provided a subsidy for the service. He argued that there should also be subsidies provided by the regional governments of Jakarta’s supporting areas.

‘Well, if anyone wants to join in or chip in, I am very grateful, Alhamdulillah, but they feel that this is a necessity for Jakarta,’ he said in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (10/6/2026).

He stressed that the Transjabodetabek service is actually intended to support public transportation in the agglomeration area. This means the service is not just a necessity for Jakarta, but also for residents from the buffer zones. ‘It is actually not a necessity for Jakarta, but a shared necessity as an agglomeration,’ Pramono stated.

Even so, he did not wish to debate the matter. He stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government would strive to improve transportation services in Jakarta, including those to the buffer zones. ‘I do not want to debate whether or not there are contributions, but what is clear is that we will handle the transportation issue in Jakarta and its supporting or buffer areas better,’ he said.

It is known that there are currently 18 Transjabodetabek routes in operation. From these 18 routes, the amount of subsidy provided by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government reaches Rp 401 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, which is approximately 10 per cent of the total subsidy provided for Transjakarta services amounting to Rp 4.1 trillion.
