The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the transition season in the Cilacap region, Central Java, will commence from April to May 2026. Following that, Cilacap will enter a dry season forecasted to be drier than normal conditions.

Head of the Technical Group at Tunggul Wulung BMKG Meteorological Station in Cilacap, Teguh Wardoyo, stated that the dry season is expected to begin in mid-May 2026. He noted that rainfall during that period is predicted to be lower than the annual average.

“This year, the dry season is forecasted to be drier than usual, so early anticipation is necessary,” he said on Monday (30/3).

According to Teguh, the duration of this year’s dry season is also expected to be quite long, ranging from 140 to 180 days. Such conditions could increase the risk of drought in several areas, particularly those historically prone to water shortages.

Certain regions such as Binangun and Nusawungu are predicted to enter the dry season earlier, even from early May. The peak of the dry season is anticipated in August 2026.

BMKG warns that the drier dry conditions could impact the availability of clean water and the agricultural sector. Therefore, the public is urged to begin anticipatory measures, especially in managing water resources.

“Meanwhile, during the transition period from April to May 2026, weather conditions tend to be unpredictable. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning remains possible. BMKG advises the public to remain vigilant and regularly monitor official weather information to anticipate any sudden changes,” he added.

During that period, he said, air temperatures are expected to range from 25-33 degrees Celsius, with air humidity levels between 62-95 percent.
