Trans-Java Toll Road Set to Expand by 57.17 km: Here's the Route
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to progress the construction of the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road in Banten province in stages. This 83.67 km national strategic project is expected to strengthen connectivity from the north to the south of Banten, while driving economic growth and tourism.
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that toll road development serves not only as transportation infrastructure but also as an instrument for regional development equity and local economic strengthening.
“Toll road construction always has strategic significance, not only for physical infrastructure but also for strengthening the national economic foundation,” Dody said in a written statement on Saturday (9/5/2026).
The Serang-Panimbang Toll Road is divided into three sections: Section 1 Serang-Rangkasbitung spanning 26.45 km, Section 2 Rangkasbitung-Cileles spanning 24.17 km, and Section 3 Cileles-Panimbang spanning 33 km. The toll road passes through Serang City, Serang Regency, Lebak Regency, and Pandeglang Regency.
Section 1 Serang-Rangkasbitung has been operational since 2021 and serves as the main connector for mobility in central Banten.
Meanwhile, the construction of Section 2 Rangkasbitung-Cileles has entered its final stage with 98.64% construction progress and 86.71% land acquisition progress. This section is targeted for construction completion in the second quarter of 2026.
As for the construction of Section 3 Cileles-Panimbang, which is the government’s portion, it continues in stages. Phase 1 has reached 99.88%. Meanwhile, Phase 2 works, divided into several packages, are also progressing and targeted to be completed gradually by the end of 2026.
The Serang-Panimbang Toll Road is designed with a design speed of 100 km/h, 4 lanes two-way, a 3.8 metre median, and equipped with several main interchanges such as Walantaka, Cikeusal, Tunjung Teja, Rangkasbitung, Cikulur, Cileles, Bojong, and Panimbang.
The presence of the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road is believed to accelerate economic and tourism development in Banten province, including supporting connectivity to the Tanjung Lesung Special Economic Zone, southern coastal tourism destinations, and the Ujung Kulon National Park conservation area.
In addition, travel time from Jakarta to Tanjung Lesung is projected to be around 2-3 hours, much shorter than the previous 4-5 hours.
The completion of this toll road is expected to increase public mobility and logistics distribution, open new investment opportunities, and strengthen development equity in the Banten region.
