JAKARTA – The mudik (annual mass exodus) during Lebaran remains a significant tradition for many Indonesians each year. Beyond visiting family in their hometowns, many people use this period as an opportunity for holidays with their families.

As in previous years, the Trans-Java toll road remains a preferred route for mudik travellers. Many motorists choose to use this toll road rather than national highways, viewing it as safer and more comfortable despite the toll charges.

Under this system, toll road users are required to use a single electronic money card or e-toll card at both entry (tap in) and exit (tap out) from the toll road.

This differs from toll sections operating under an open system, where one card can still be used by more than one vehicle. However, under the closed system, the data recorded at tap in must match the data at tap out.

For the 2026 Lebaran mudik period, the government is providing a 30 percent toll tariff discount valid for four days. This discount can be utilised by the public on several toll road sections managed by Jasa Marga.

“The provision of toll tariff discounts during the 2026 Lebaran period is expected to encourage road users to travel earlier so that traffic distribution can be better maintained and more evenly distributed,” said Jasa Marga Chief Executive Officer Rivan A. Purwantono in an official statement on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

The toll tariff discount applies for two days during the outbound traffic period and two days during the return traffic period. For outbound traffic, the tariff reduction applies on 15–16 March 2026, whilst return traffic occurs on 26–27 March 2026.
