The intense fire at the Trans Home building store on Jalan Jogja-Solo, Kalitirto, Berbah, Sleman, which resulted in the deaths of two employees, has not yet been fully extinguished. Thick smoke reappeared this afternoon.

“Yes, smoke is coming from the basement. If there is smoke, it means something is still burning inside,” stated the Head of the Fire Department Division of the Sleman Regency Satpol PP, Gunardi, at the location when asked for confirmation on Friday evening (2/10/2026).

Gunardi explained that the firefighting efforts at Trans Home are still ongoing because the basement continues to emit smoke, particularly from the entrance. “Smoke is coming from the western door because there are many flammable materials inside. Traffic was temporarily congested,” Gunardi added.

The Coordinator of the Sleman SAR Alert Unit from Basarnas Yogyakarta, Dedi Prasetyo, stated that the Fire Department teams are still struggling to manage the situation, especially in the basement area.

“This afternoon, the Fire Department colleagues were still carrying out firefighting operations, particularly in the basement area,” he explained to the media. “From our side (Basarnas), our official duties are complete; we only participate to evacuate human lives if they are threatened or in danger.”

The ongoing fire at Trans Home, which has yet to be fully suppressed, has gone viral again on Facebook and Instagram accounts. On the Merapi_News Facebook account, thick smoke was seen rising from the three-storey shop.

Furthermore, traffic appeared heavy, and the route towards the city was closed again. Residents were also seen watching from across the road.

It was previously reported that the Trans Home building store, located on Jalan Jogja-Solo, Kalitirto Village, Berbah District, Sleman, caught fire. “That is correct, earlier today. The firefighting process is still ongoing,” said the Village Head of Kalitirto, Ari Hadi, when asked for confirmation on Thursday (1/10) afternoon.

Ari stated that the object on fire was a building materials store located on the side of the Jogja-Solo road towards Jogja.

Two female employees became victims of the fire at the Trans Home building store in Berbah, Sleman. Both were found deceased.

“The condition was that we found them having ceased breathing and having no pulse. They were subsequently taken to Bhayangkara Hospital,” said the coordinator of the Sleman SAR alert unit, Basarnas Yogyakarta, Dedi Prasetyo, to the media.

Dedi noted that the joint firefighting team began operations at 14:00 WIB. According to initial information, two employees were trapped inside.

“We coordinated and carried out evacuations because, from the initial information, there were two people trapped inside. First, we had to ensure the location was sterile and safe from fire and smoke before we could evacuate the victims,” Dedi explained.
