“Hello Guys, welcome back with me, Charlos Imanuel Titiahiy. Today Charlos invites all friends to visit a tourist spot in West Halmahera. Precisely at Tanjung Rappa Pelangi!” he said. Charlos is a student at SMA Negeri 1 West Halmahera District, who was one of 116 participants in the “Shoot, Edit, Upload: Training to Create Cool Content from Smartphones” workshop organised by Tempo Inti Media Impresario together with the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) at SMP Negeri 1, Jailolo Subdistrict, West Halmahera District, North Maluku Province, on Thursday, 16 April 2026. In this 58-second Instagram Reels content, Charlos presents a visual story about Tanjung Rappa Pelangi, which is one of the flagship tourist destinations in Jailolo. The content with an attractive video angle accompanied by informative narration brought him first place in the workshop. Amid the rapid flow of digital currents, this training serves as a learning space and a driver for the youth in the region to utilise technology productively. The Regent of West Halmahera, James Uang, emphasised that the current era has changed the way people create and empower themselves. “Today we live in an age where one video from a mobile phone can reach the world,” he stated in his speech at the event location. According to James, this workshop is more than technical training, as it becomes a long-term investment for the future of West Halmahera’s young generation. He also sees great potential from the participants present, from students, teachers, to creative practitioners, as new energy to encourage the birth of content that highlights local wealth. “West Halmahera will not only be known as a region rich in nature, but also rich in creativity and digital innovation,” he said. He also reminded that becoming a creator is not just about popularity, but about conveying values and giving positive impact. Meanwhile, the Principal of SMP Negeri 1 Jailolo, Halil Taib, described the trust in making his school the training location as a special pride. The school, which has stood since 1960, according to him, now faces new challenges in the digital era. “What is needed is not only the ability to use technology, but how to utilise it for constructive things,” said Halil. He hopes that the students can take this opportunity to become creators who are not only active, but also bring positive impact to the environment. The Director of Tempo Inti Media Impresario, Ali Nur Yasin, assessed that the digital world has become an inseparable space from daily life. However, its utilisation is still not evenly distributed. Through collaboration with various parties, including BAKTI Komdigi, Tempo strives to present training that encourages more wise and productive use of technology. “The smartphone we hold is not just a communication tool, but also a tool for creating and storytelling,” said Ali. He highlighted the great potential of Jailolo, especially in cultural and tourism aspects, which he considers strong to be elevated into creative content. This workshop also opens opportunities for the youth in Jailolo to appear and introduce their regional identity to a wider public. From a simple classroom, the participants are invited to see that their stage is no longer geographically limited, but open to a global level. With a practical approach, starting from shooting techniques, editing, to content distribution, this training is expected to be the initial step in the birth of digital creators from West Halmahera who can compete in the creative economy era. In his speech opening the workshop series held in North Maluku Province, the Director General of BAKTI Komdigi, Fadhilah Mathar, revealed that data from the Indonesian Digital Society Index (IMDI) shows a large gap in literacy and technology utilisation, especially in eastern Indonesia. This serves as a reminder that digital transformation is not just a matter of networks and infrastructure, but also human resources. “Together with Tempo Inti Media Impresario, we hope the young generation can become digital ambassadors who are not only skilled in using technology, but also able to bring their regional stories with full pride,” she said.
