Training Centre in Gayo Lues to Become Option for Disaster Survivors
The government training centre facility managed by the regional administration has become one option for the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to temporarily accommodate disaster survivors in Gayo Lues Regency, Aceh, who are still awaiting completion of temporary housing construction.
“BNPB will temporarily place them in more suitable locations, such as the training centre building managed by the regional government, so that all affected communities in Gayo Lues Regency can enjoy better and more dignified Eid celebrations,” said BNPB Head Suharyanto in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
This move aligns with BNPB’s target to ensure no disaster-affected residents remain in temporary tented shelters in Gayo Lues Regency ahead of the 2026 Eid celebration.
According to BNPB’s preliminary data as of Tuesday (10 March), the need for temporary shelters in Gayo Lues Regency reached 1,713 units, with 1,518 units already completed.
In addition to house damage, some residents no longer have suitable land to rebuild their homes, so the regional government is working to prepare centralised relocation sites. BNPB reported that some land currently used for temporary shelter locations is planned to become permanent housing sites, scheduled to begin construction after early April 2026.
“The technical plan is that after this permanent housing programme, at least from early April onwards, rehabilitation and reconstruction will begin. We will start permanent housing construction. The situation here in Gayo Lues is somewhat different from other areas,” Suharyanto said.
