Train ticket scalpers

From Kompas

When trying to book a railway ticket for the Parahyangan train plying the Jakarta-Bandung route for April 14, I was told all the tickets were sold because April 13 was a national holiday. I was then offered a ticket costing twice the official price by some scalpers. I decided to delay my trip because I didn't want to buy a ticket from a scalper. Possibly some of the sold-out tickets had been booked by the brokers.

At the same time I saw something else at the ticket booth. People in big line pushing each other because someone tried to jump the line. I think those in the queue were ticket brokers. Strangely, the security guard standing near the ticket counter did nothing.

The presence of ticket brokers requires attention from the relevant authorities, especially from the Gambir railway station chief and the local security units. If left unheeded, the image of Indonesia's capital Jakarta will be tarnished.

Nevertheless, I am aware that getting rid of the scalpers is not an easy job because several parties are involved. If little things like this are not fixed, gradually our state will become more disorderly and the state's image will worsen.
