Train Ticket Prices Drop, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Immediately Asks Mudik Travellers
The government is providing people’s train services for mudik travellers during this year’s Eid period. Through PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), train ticket prices have become more affordable. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya has directly inspected the readiness of the train fleet and ensured that the programme is running smoothly.
Teddy stated that through this programme, train tickets have decreased significantly, making them more accessible to the wider public and facilitating mudik travel.
“So earlier there was a people’s train. Previously, the price from Jakarta to Yogyakarta was around Rp 225,000 – Rp 250,000. Earlier we checked, I checked directly with the passengers, so the price has dropped quite a bit to between Rp 135,000 and Rp 175,000,” he said, quoting the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram account, Wednesday (18/3/2026).
In addition, Teddy also mentioned that besides ensuring affordable ticket prices, he inspected railway facilities. He ensured passenger facilities such as air conditioning, toilets, and carriage cleanliness.
“The facilities have improved. So the price has decreased. The AC is on, the toilet is good. Then the seats are not facing each other. Yeah, it’s comfortable for 6 hours to Yogyakarta,” he said.
Teddy appreciated KAI for improving passenger train carriages to make them comfortable for users. In the future, the quality and comfort of the train fleet will also be enhanced in other cities.
“All railways in Indonesia, not just in Java but on other islands as well, will improve their quality and comfort,” he added.
He explained that this is in line with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, so that train transportation services and quality can continue to improve from before.
“He wants all stations, Gambir, Senen, Jatinegara and so on, and the trains to have improved quality, better. In the future, it will be accelerated, increased, in short, all railways more modern, more comfortable, cleaner, and on time earlier,” he concluded.
