Train Passengers in Yogyakarta Surge During Long Holiday

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 6 Yogyakarta recorded a total of 342,195 long-distance train passengers during the recent long holiday. This period spanned from Eid al-Adha to Pancasila Day, specifically from 26 May to 1 June 2026. Feni Novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, stated that the total figure comprised 164,737 departing passengers and 177,458 arriving passengers within the Daop 6 region.

“The number of passengers during this long weekend increased by 45 per cent compared to the same period the previous week, which recorded 235,697 passengers,” said Feni, as quoted from Antara on Tuesday, 2 June 2026. She noted that passenger movement patterns were dominated by arrivals in the Daop 6 region between 26 and 29 May, while departures surged significantly from 31 May to 1 June as people returned to their home regions following the holiday.

Yogyakarta Station remained the busiest hub, serving 78,864 arriving passengers and 8ly 86,206 departing passengers. This high volume is attributed to Yogyakarta’s position as a favourite tourist destination offering diverse attractions, ranging from nature and cultural arts to culinary experiences. Feni added that this surge reflects high public confidence in rail transport, which is regarded as superior in terms of punctuality, comfort, and continuously updated facilities. She stated that PT KAI Daop 6 is committed to continuously improving services to ensure trains remain a safe, comfortable, and efficient mode of transport for the public. “We are grateful for the trust of all our customers. KAI urges passengers to always prioritise safety within station areas and on trains, to look after their belongings, and to follow the instructions of officers,” Feni concluded.
