Train passengers electrocuted
JAKARTA (JP): Two teenagers died in separate incidents on
railways in South and East Jakarta yesterday. Both youths fell
onto the track after suffering an electric shock, bringing the
death toll from such incidents to three this year.
The victims were identified as Rudi Sarwono, 12, of Gg.
Pelangi, Kalibata in South Jakarta and Aris Afrianto, 16, of
Perum I, Kayuringin in Bekasi.
The first incident happened about 1 p.m. in South Jakarta. The
second was at approximately 2 p.m. in East Jakarta.
Bambang H.P., a forensic expert at the Cipto Mangunkusumo
General Hospital, quoted police as saying Rudi, who was sitting
on the train roof to escape an overcrowded car, "was electrocuted
as he inadvertently touched the electric train's wire".
Aris, the second victim, was electrocuted prior to boarding
the train. He fell onto the track after touching an electrified
fence at Cakung station and was hit by a speeding train, Bambang
said.
Both victims suffered severe head wounds.
Rudi's body has been claimed by his family and was buried in
Menteng Pulo public cemetery yesterday. Aris' body remains in the
hospital morgue.
Another passenger, Suryadi, fell to his death after being
electrocuted on a train in Depok last month. (emf)
