Train kills homeless woman

JAKARTA (JP): A homeless 35-year-old woman was killed by a
train in Klender, East Jakarta, at about 7 a.m. yesterday, police
and eyewitnesses said.

A police officer from Duren Sawit Police post said Paini
sustained severe head injuries and died on impact.

Paini was crossing the railway tracks after bathing in a pond,
oblivious to a passing train on its way from Cirebon in West Java
to Jakarta, an eyewitness, Dody, said.

"The victim had finished bathing in a nearby pond," he said.
"When she crossed the tracks, she seemed unaware of a fast train
coming from the east."

The accident triggered a brief traffic jam on nearby Jl. I
Gusti Ngurah Rai. (pan)
