Train hits bus, one dead

The Bengawan Solo economy-class train collided with a Continental
intercity bus early on Tuesday morning in Cirebon,
leaving one bus passenger dead and five others slightly injured.

The deceased was identified as Suwarsono, 30. He was taken to
Gunung Jati Hospital, as were the five injured.

According to the bus driver, Suryanto, the accident occurred
as the bus passed over the railway crossing at Jl. Achmad Yani in
downtown Cirebon. The train struck the rear of the bus, where all
the victims were seated.

Suryanto and one of the passengers, Eddy Iryanto, claimed they
did not hear a train signal before the accident. Iryanto also
said the railway crossing bar was not functioning. --JP
