Train Driver Named Suspect in Argo Bromo Accident: Minister of Transport Responds
The Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) has fully deferred the legal process regarding the designation of the Argo Bromo Angribusiness train driver as a suspect in the collision with a KRL TM6000 on 27 April 2026. Minister of Transport Dudy Purwagandhi stated that as the legal process is still ongoing, he does not wish to draw premature conclusions regarding the parties responsible for the accident.
He noted that the determination of suspect status is the authority of law enforcement agencies. The Ministry of Transport will follow the ongoing legal proceedings.
“I believe that is the domain of the police or law enforcement agencies. Therefore, we will certainly always follow or adhere to the ongoing legal process. For other matters, we leave it entirely to the police,” said Dudy at the DPR Building on Wednesday (30/9/2026).
The handling of the accident involves parties with different mandates. The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) is conducting an investigation from the accident’s technical perspective, while the police are handling the criminal aspects.
“Because there is the KNKT conducting an investigation from the accident side, and there is also the police looking at the criminal aspect. Since this has entered their respective domains, we leave it to each respective party,” he added.
The Ministry of Transport also stated that it will follow the results of the investigation conducted by the police. The government will not preempt the ongoing legal process.
“When the police determine the status of their investigation, we leave it entirely to the police, whom I am confident will act professionally,” he said.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Transport stated that it will implement the recommendations issued by the KNKT regarding the accident. These recommendations will later serve as a basis for both the government and operators to implement necessary improvements.
