Train derails in Lampung
BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: A passenger train, Limex S-1, derailed
in Kalibalangan subdistrict, Lampung province, on early Wednesday
morning. No casualties were reported.
The ill-fated train had left the Kertapati railway station in
Palembang province at 9 p.m. on Tuesday and was scheduled to
arrive in Tanjungkarang, Lampung, at 4:07 a.m, on Wednesday.
As many as 423 passengers, including 104 in executive class,
were evacuated to another train to continue their trip to
Tanjungkarang.
Head of the Tanjungkarang railway station Baidillah confirmed
the accident, which he said took place after one of the axles
suffered serious damage, forcing the train to grind to a halt.
As the evacuation was underway, local railway workers and
technicians were working to repair the severely damaged parts of
the train in order to clear the track and restore railroad
traffic on the single track line. --Antara
