Tragic: Peace Task Force Officer Brigadier Fredi Lukas Killed in Yahukimo Stabbing, Suspect at Large
A member of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Brigadier Fredi Lukas Awes, has died while on duty in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Highlands. He is believed to have been attacked with a sharp weapon by an unknown person. The incident occurred on Monday night, 20 July 2026, at around 11.30 pm Eastern Indonesian Time. Brigadier Fredi Lukas Awes was found in the Jalan Pertanian Halabok Paradiso Belakang area, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, with multiple stab wounds. The Cartenz Peace Task Force, together with Yahukimo Police and the Mobile Brigade Corps, is currently pursuing the perpetrator and investigating the motive behind the attack. The body was evacuated to Dekai Regional General Hospital for medical examination before being flown to Jayapura City and has since been laid to rest at the family home. Deputy Head of Public Relations for the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Senior Commissioner Andri Alam, stated that officers immediately secured the crime scene, conducted a forensic investigation, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses. Head of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani, expressed his deepest condolences, calling the fallen officer one of the police force’s finest and affirming that the investigation will be handled professionally and in accordance with the law.
