A resident of Dompu lost their life before receiving medical treatment. The victim died inside a car trapped in a lengthy traffic jam caused by a road blockade staged by a crowd in Madaprama Village, Woja District, Dompu, Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB).

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon (15/6/2025) and later went viral on social media.

According to information gathered, the victim was en route to the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) to seek medical care. However, the car they were travelling in became stuck in a traffic jam alongside dozens of other vehicles on Jalan Tekasire, the main route to the centre of Dompu City. The victim subsequently died inside the vehicle before reaching the hospital. The body was then taken back to the family home.

News of the resident’s death first spread widely after being posted by the Facebook account Angin Topan. In the post, the account stated the victim was late in receiving treatment because road access was blocked by the mass action. “A life was taken due to a delay in receiving treatment, which occurred because of the road closure in Madaprama village yesterday,” wrote Angin Topan.

When confirmed, Angin Topan revealed that the victim’s family chose not to escalate the matter and accepted the incident as fate.

Meanwhile, Pekat Police Chief Iptu Jubaidin admitted he did not yet know for certain about the information regarding a resident dying amid the traffic jam caused by the road blockade.

The road blockade itself was triggered by the dissatisfaction of Madaprama Village residents with a demonstration they had staged in front of a bank office on Monday morning concerning a land auction. After the protest, the crowd returned to the village and blocked the trans-provincial road using wood, rocks, and burning used tyres. Road access was completely shut, preventing vehicles from either direction from moving.
