Tragic News: Head of West Nusa Tenggara Tax Authority Dr Jack Dies in Jakarta
The Head of the Regional Tax Authority (Bapenda) of West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB), Lalu Herman Mahaputra, also known as Dr Jack, has died in Jakarta on the evening of Tuesday, 10 March 2026. His death was confirmed by Irfan, one of his subordinates at Bapenda NTB.
“That’s correct. He passed away at approximately 21:00 Western Indonesian Time,” Irfan stated on Tuesday evening.
Irfan revealed that Dr Jack’s death was quite sudden. On the day before his death, Dr Jack had participated in a Technical Workshop on the Calculation of Specific Licensing Retribution for the Management of Community-Scale Mining, organised by the Directorate General of Financial Balance through the Regional Tax and Retribution Directorate at the Fairfield by Marriott in Bekasi on Monday, 9 March 2026.
The workshop was attended by representatives from local government authorities from various provinces across Indonesia. The workshop aimed to provide local government officials with technical understanding of the mechanisms for calculating specific licensing retribution in community-scale mining operations.
However, Irfan could not determine with certainty the cause of Dr Jack’s death. According to information from other officials who participated in the workshop, Dr Jack’s condition apparently deteriorated suddenly.
“There was nothing obviously wrong with him. He collapsed from exhaustion, according to the initial reports,” he said.
Based on information gathered, prior to his death, Dr Jack had been watching videos on his mobile phone at his in-laws’ house in Jakarta when he suddenly began experiencing convulsions before losing consciousness.
The Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Communication and Information Technology Agency, Ahsanul Khalik, who was also in Jakarta, had not yet responded to enquiries regarding the death of the head of Bapenda NTB. Further attempts are being made to determine the exact cause of Dr Jack’s death.
