Tragic Death of Udayana Veterinary Medicine Student at Base of Shortcut Bridge 7
I Putu Gde PNT (22) was found dead at the base of Shortcut Bridge 7 in Gitgit Village, Sukasada District, Buleleng Regency, Bali, on Thursday 26 February 2026. He was a second-year student at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Udayana University and actively contributed to the Student Press Agency (LPM) Suara Satwa.
The discovery of PNT’s body began with the suspicions of a villager named Wayan Somarata (54), who noticed a motorcycle parked for hours at the side of the bridge.
“At 09:00 local time, the witness observed a black Honda Sonic motorcycle with registration DK 2069 UBQ parked at the side of Shortcut Bridge 7. At that time, the witness assumed the owner was taking photographs in the surrounding area, so he did not become suspicious,” explained Iptu Yohana Rosalin Diaz, head of public relations for Buleleng Police.
However, when Somarata returned from his garden around 12:15 local time, the motorcycle remained in the same location. Concerned, Somarata checked the area around the bridge but found no one. He then contacted the village chief and, together with other residents, conducted a search below the bridge. The villagers eventually found the victim’s body at the base of the ravine, lying motionless. The victim was wearing a black jacket and black trousers.
Joint security personnel from the military administrative officer, community policing officers, and Sukasada Police Station immediately went to the location to conduct evacuation. The evacuation process was quite difficult due to the steep terrain. Officers even constructed an emergency shelter using bamboo and sacks to assist in the body retrieval process.
A medical team from Sukasada II Health Centre, together with the Criminal Investigation Unit of Buleleng Police, conducted a preliminary examination at the scene.
“The preliminary medical examination results indicate that the victim suffered fractured legs, wounds to the head, and was bleeding from the mouth,” explained Yohana.
The body was then evacuated to Buleleng Regency General Hospital at approximately 15:00 local time via ambulance for autopsy. Police are continuing further investigations to determine the precise cause of death, including gathering witness statements and collecting evidence at the scene.
There is a suspicion that PNT died by suicide after jumping from the bridge. PNT himself was a Udayana University student from Wira Bakti Housing Complex in Baktiseraga Village, Buleleng District.
