Tragedy! Mr Minta Dies After Being Beaten by Neighbour Over Theft of Two Labu Siam Gourds
A man named Minta (56) died after being beaten by his neighbour over allegedly taking two labu siam gourds from the neighbour’s garden. The suspect is now in police custody. According to detikJabar, the incident occurred after the victim was caught taking labu siam from the garden tended by the suspect on Saturday (28 February). The suspect, Ujang Ahmad (41), is the neighbour of the victim. The assailant chased the victim to his house. After meeting, the two argued. The attacker then beat the victim right in front of his house. The head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Cugenang Police Sector, Ipda Muslikan, confirmed the incident. The suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and pressured him to admit to the act. “The victim was beaten until he vomited. The suspect asked the victim to admit to the alleged theft of labu siam from his garden,” he said, on Tuesday (3 March 2026). Witnesses intervened. At that time the victim, who was unsteady, admitted having taken two labu siam gourds. “After the intervention, the victim admitted taking two labu siam gourds and pointed to his younger brother and the attacker who had beaten him,” he said. The victim was then treated in hospital for the injuries sustained. He was treated in intensive care before he died. “The victim did not die at the scene, but two days after being treated in hospital, specifically Monday (2 March 2026) evening. From the time of admission, his condition was bruising and dizziness, which worsened,” he said. The attacker Minta was eventually arrested by police soon after news of the victim’s death. Police are still probing the motive. “The suspect has been secured. He is currently undergoing further questioning,” he said. “The reason is emotion; the victim repeatedly took labu or produce from the garden he tended. So as soon as someone is found taking them, they chased him,” he said.
