Tragedy in East Jakarta Culvert: Three Workers Die

A workplace accident occurred in a culvert in the Bambu Apus area of Cipayung, East Jakarta, resulting in the deaths of three workers. The Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) received a request for evacuation at 09:49 WIB on Thursday (9/7/2026). A total of 12 rescue personnel were deployed to the scene, and the evacuation process began at 10:00 WIB. The three victims were successfully removed from the culvert by 11:55 WIB.

According to the Head of Operations for the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-department, Abdul Wahid, the incident began when one worker entered the culvert and lost consciousness halfway down. A colleague attempted a rescue but also fainted. A third worker then entered and suffered the same fate. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The bodies have been transported to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta for further identification. The exact cause of death remains under investigation by the authorities.
