Jakarta – The Badan Nasional Pencarian dan Pertolongan (Basarnas) DKI Jakarta reported that three people were killed after being buried by a landslide of waste at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST Bantargebang), in Ciketing Udik Village, Bantargebang District, Bekasi City. Desiana Kartika Bahari, head of the Jakarta SAR Office, said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday that the victims consisted of two women and one man: Enda Widayanti (25) and Sumine (60), both owners of a warung, and Dedi Sutrisno, a truck driver. Desiana added that authorities were still compiling a list of victims, as many garbage trucks and warungs at the site remained buried. Authorities have deployed SAR standby unit personnel from BPBD Bekasi City and BPBD DKI Jakarta Province. Heavy equipment has been placed on standby to assist with the evacuation. Earlier, a video circulating on Instagram posted by @lbj_jakarta showed a waste landslide in Bantargebang burying several trucks. The incident occurred around 15:30 WIB after heavy rains drenched Bekasi since noon; the mounds of waste reaching a critical height caused the waste material to slump and bury the trucks queuing for unloading.
