Traffickers arrested

JAKARTA (JP): Customs and Excise officers at the Jakarta airport of Soekarno-Hatta on Saturday foiled a drug-smuggling attempt by a Dutch citizen.

The head of the agency at the airport, Nisfu Chasbullah, told Antara news agency yesterday that the suspect, whom he identified only by his initial TAM, tried to smuggle in 7,136 Ecstasy pills worth Rp 700 million (US$296,000) but was arrested after his luggage was X-rayed.

On March 28 the officers also held a 41-year-old Dutch woman, who had arrived from Germany, for the same offense. She had tried to smuggle in 9,000 Ecstasy pills in her bag. (tis)
