Traffic Violation in Alphard vs Security Guard Case Handled by Metro Police
The alleged traffic violation in the dispute between the driver of an Alphard and a security guard at the pedestrian crossing (pelican crossing) at the HI Roundabout, Central Jakarta, is being handled by the Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate (Subdit Gakkum) of the Traffic Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police. The Head of Menteng Metro Sectoral Police, AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, said his unit had handed the matter over to Subdit Gakkum for further action.
“Regarding the suspected traffic violation by the driver, this will be followed up tonight by the Subdit Gakkum of the Traffic Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police,” Braiel told reporters in Jakarta on Friday (24/7).
Regarding the status of the vehicle, Braiel confirmed that the Alphard involved in the incident was registered as a private vehicle, not a police service vehicle. Meanwhile, the mechanism and technical process of impounding the vehicle, including further investigation into the suspected use of false number plates on the car, has been referred by the Menteng Sectoral Police to the Traffic Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police.
“For the technical details of the impoundment, please liaise with the Head of the Gakkum Sub-Directorate of the Traffic Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police. What is clear is that it is a private car,” said Braiel.
Beyond the traffic violation, the incident has also drawn attention due to alleged arrogant behaviour by the occupants or driver of the vehicle. Braiel confirmed that the individuals suspected of behaving arrogantly in the incident are serving police officers stationed within the jurisdiction of the West Java Regional Police.
Consequently, the handling of the suspected disciplinary and ethical breaches by the officers has been referred directly to the Professional and Security Division (Propam).
“Regarding what was mentioned earlier, that there were several suspected acts of arrogance by the driver’s colleagues and the passengers, this will also be followed up tonight by the Propam Sub-Division of the West Java Regional Police. The personnel are from the West Java Regional Police,” he affirmed.
